Call Melvin and have him build you a NULA. I have a freshly built 300wm with a Z5 and it’s crazy light but kills on both ends, even with Melvins stick design. It’s around 7lbs loaded as it sits.

11:56pm eastern time, I purchased the bergara premier mountain 2.0 in 300WM before the ball drop. Also I bought rings, bipod, and a scope. Will follow up with final weights and pictures of the setup.

Of course I’m expecting it to be a shoulder buster.

Happy new year and thanks for everyone’s help.

I just ordered a .284 win from Melvin a month ago , he said on right handed rifles he’s running about 8 months out and 6 months on left hand . Well worth the weight ! Call him up you won’t regret it , real easy guy to talk to and very knowledgeable about lightweight rifles !

If you want a shoulder breaker, I wouldn’t think of any thing less then 338 win, 375 H&H still be on the light side.

Yes these would certainly qualify, but the 300WM rifle at 6.4lbs should satisfy my shoulder busting desire.

Well that's a nice way to ring in the new year! Look forward to your review. The No. 3 barrel contour Bergara uses should really help the balance, aiming and front recoil whip of the rifle. Plus it should benefit you with load development getting a shot or two more before it gets hot. It'll be a handful with 200 grain pills...enjoy!

The package is finally complete. Thanks to a good deal deal on a used scope I finally selected a scope to finish this build. Below are the final weights and photos.

In the end, it's not truly an "ultralight", but it's 3.75lbs lighter than my setup last year with more magnification, better glass, and I'm expecting about half the average group size. I cant wait to get this to the range.

Final weight: (8lbs, 13.2oz) or (8.83lbs) or (141.2oz)

Heads up, I'm checking to see if anyone would like to buy this kit. I'm looking at mostly glassing for 2022 season.

How about a custom 338 Edge built by Pierce Engineering with a Pierce titanium action, Hart #4 28in barrel. Vias muzzle brake. HS Precision stock. BDL and Detachable box magazine. Shoots 300gr Accubond very well. Don’t have the load quite down yet but sub MOA. Weights 7lbs 11oz.

Well how did it shoot? Work up any loads for it?

Wyo2track: thanks for the interest. I have only put about 17 rounds down range. Two into a watermelon with no optic, A few to get the optic on paper, and the remainder just feeding various box ammo I had. Nothing did better than 1.375inch groups so I’ll build a hand load for this rifle if it does not sell.

Basically I’m short on time and I don’t think I’ll get to the load development and long distance range in time to record DOPE before hunting season.

I’ve got a 300WM in my case that’s a proven harvester at short and long range so I’ll stick with that this season.

If no one buys the kit. I will build the load just not sure I’ll get to it this summer.

Here’s a pic of some box ammo I tested after mounting the glass.

This is a BAMF for sure. I'm very happy with the way my build came out with the rifle starting at 6.34lbs and ending at 8.83lbs including rings, optic (3-18), bipod (harris). I won't be upset if no one gives me the cash i'm asking for the kit. I'll just shelf the rifle until next season when I have time to develop a good load.

I have a Tikka T3X Superlite in 300 win mag. It was bought new last year. Fired about 10 times. The rifle itself is 6lb even on my scale. I was going to post it for sale for $700 but haven't gotten around to take photos. Never hunted with. Selling because I need something with a threaded barrel for my wife to use with a suppressor.

I've come into some new information that some roksliders have since returned their Razor HD LHT due to malfunction. @cperry have you had to utilize the warranty on your Taurus Vortex scope yet?

For a long time I was tempted to buy the LHT. But reviews of needing to use the warranty always spooked me.

No. But I’m not really hard on my stuff. The ones I have still work the way they did when I got them.

Totally fair assessment. I love the reticle on the LHT, I love it's Weight, but the warranty claims kept me away from it. Happy hunting this season.

That setup looks mighty nice. But I’ll stick with my WM for now.

You want a mean lightweight fire breathing dragon, then look at the new Weatherby Backcountry 2.0 in 30-378 or 300 weatherby. 99 grains of powder and a 200 grain pill would let you know you're holding onto something buttercup. $140 per box for 30-378 in Sportsman's but at least it's easier to find than .300 win mag right now. Look at the Bergara Premier Mountain 2.0. You can get a .300 win or 300 PRC in that lightweight.
I did what he said and got the 30-378 backcountry. Awesome even though its overkill. Doesn’t kick bad at all. Came in about 8lbs w/scope and rings
