These bison aren't very easy to find and don't stick around long once they start feeling pressure.
The American Bison doesn't have to water everyday and only consumes 1% of it's body wieght daily. When you combine those two items with the rugged country they call home provides the opportunity for them to disappear for long periods of time.

These Bison stay in the thick cedars and hug the edge of the rim rock so they can quickly drop off the steep edge.

A first for me this trip was with so much SKRE Gear in camp, I had to sort through multiple Hardscrabble Jackets in the Jeep looking for mine a couple different times. Gonna have to figure out a label for my stuff lol.

I noticed everyone else opted for Hardscrabble pants and with a Wasatch top layered under the Mad trapper hoody. These guys got a lot of performance without spending an arm and leg.

I wore mostly the Kaibab set (love the SKRE merino wool), Hardscrabble pants, Kanati hoody with a Hardscrabble vest to cut the wind as needed. Merino wool combined with the hip vents really is about perfect for these early fall days that start cold but warm up pretty quickly.

That is an awesome hunt realunlucky. Nice job on killing one looks like you earned that meat.

Quick question that is probably already answered somewhere in the thread but how do you like the gaiters? I have been looking into new ones. I have Cabela branded ones and they are goretex. They work good but they are loud. I have had them for a few years but this was my first year archery whitetail hunting with them and besides me just sucking at stalking I noticed the gaiters would make noise anytime a twig or branch would brush against them. Any feedback would be great thanks.

Again that looks like the hunt of a lifetime good job

I reviewed them starting in post#32. I'll sum up some a few thoughts here. They have cordura bottoms so they could be noisy if you rub them together walking or against things while walking. The tops are similar to the Nebo rain fabric (might be 4 layer rather than 3 layer material don't recall) so not super noisy but they aren't brushed so will still make noise. I did poke a couple small holes in the uppers but they are much more durable then I thought. I recommend looking though all my other pictures starting in post#32 for things such as how the straps are wearing. I've had good durability with my set and will be using my same hardscrabble gaiters though out this late season.

If your using for primarily stalking I'd look to a brushed outer fabric on the gaiter lowers to be as silent as possible, but I think these would work with careful foot placement.

I got my son a pair of the gaiters this year. The bottoms are definitely noisy if you rub your feet together, but once he started paying attention to how he walked they were fine. He used them busting brush in the snow and on a few stream crossings, no issues with leaks or durability.

SKRE has released thier newest pant - the KODIAK. It's a mid season fleece lined pant designed for 30* and below. I got a pair ordered for my up coming mid west whitetail hunt in November. I'll be getting a review up very soon.

Have the Kodiak pants in hand, look like a great option for colder weather hunts. Be posting up some more pictures shortly.

I'm a huge proponent of when in doubt of what product fits your needs best or what size you need to give the customer service at SKRE a call. It can really speed up the process of getting the proper fit the first time.

I'm going to post up a few pictures of the features of the Kodiak pants. I'm pretty excited to get these out in the field unfortunately when I tried this pair on it was atlest a full size bigger in the waist then my Hardscrabble's also in 38. They'll be going back for another pair and I'll keep this updated.

The Kodiak pants are built out of the mtn-x2 face fabric bonded to interior micro-fleece. This is same awesome fabric that the Hardscrabble jacket is made with, providing a warm ultra quite outer soft shell with the dwr water resistant Teflon shield+ treatment.
The Kodiak pants have 8 zippered pickets-- 2 zippered rear pockets, 2 zippered hand pockets and 4 zippered cargo pockets. Like all SKRE pants the Kodiak feature a zippered side vent. All zippers are high quality trouble free YKK brand.

Here's a few pictures of micro-fleece. Note the pockets are not mesh on the Kodiak. Other than the slight sizing hiccup these seem a direct reflection of a non insulated hardscrabble in cut and feel. More on that as I get sized properly and wear them in the field.

Been reported that things are really starting to heat up for the rut in Missouri. Here's my nephew's buck from youth season.

Got the Kodiak pants exchanged and back on Saturday. Fit of the 36 Kodiak pants is pretty dang close to the 38 Hardscrabble so down sizing on these was the ticket for me. I always recommend calling and asking for sizing advice when in doubt though.

Don't mind the flowery background but here is a picture of how the waist bands matches up now

Cold for this time of year in Missouri currently 20* wind gusts supposedly 20+ great day for testing not so great for sitting in a tree stand. I'm going to hold out as long as the winds stay reasonable.

Update saw one deer at first light. It's cold sitting in the wind and not seeing deer wears on my. I put my puffy on and warmed right up. Sometimes I hate stand hunting

Been perfect weather for some testing. Sitting in a tree stand is obliviously different from hunting off the ground because your much more exposed to the wind.
