So, I think I just inherited a sewing machine, where do I start?

Pretty sure I just got a sewing machine gifted to me. Would eventually like to make a down quilt and jacket as that’s what I need, but for now what should I start with? I’ve got some time over the next 3 to 4 months as I live in Michigan and winter pretty much sucks.

Down is probably one of the hardest you'll need special fabric that doesn't allow the down to squeeze though. You'll for sure need baffles to keep it in place.
I'd look at picking up some cheap material and learn to adjust the machine and make a straight stitches. Look around the diy forum and pick a few projects to get your feet wet

Take the machine to a local shop and have it cleaned and oiled before using. It has probably been sitting for a while.
