Most of the deer we have seen so far during west river archery all have been within close range to crop land. Seems like those muley's love hanging by crop fields this time of year. I know NW SD there are plenty of areas that have big draws headed right to alfalfa.... find the food with some water intermixed, and you'll find deer.

Spend an evening driving looking for deer in the crop fields and look for bedding areas near by within a mile or two, those deer will go a long way to feed. The game wardens will tell you it is legal for you to access public land through private via section lines however if you do be prepared to have confrontation with landowners.

Ugh. Got an antelope tag off of the returned list and filled that yesterday in the rain. Traveled to be by where I want to hunt deer and the road is waaaay too wet to travel. Oh well. Three weeks until rifle opens. I will probably be able to make two more trips. I honestly feel like it is going to happen, just need to keep grinding.
