Spartan races for training

Any fellow Spartans out there who use the races for training and motivation?

I've done a few of them. I enjoy them but getting tired of them nickel and diming me. I just did the one by me in mid Nov and they charged my gf 25 bucks to enter to watch.

It has been a while, but I really enjoyed them and thought it was great all around training. I wish they had archery instead of that damn spear throw.

I have a friend who competes in some sort of archery/obstacle race. Not sure what its called though. Maybe do a google search..
