Just received some Sportsmatch T084 30mm rings to hopefully match with a Bushnell Nitro scope. Anyone know what torque settings I should put on scope and Tikka integrated rail?

FWIW, on the back of my last pack of sportsmatch, they recommended 40 in-lbs for the clamp screws, and 20 in-lbs for the ring caps screws.

40 and 20 in-lbs seems what I remember.

Wind Gypsy,

I actually do 20 in-lbs on my scopes, with a touch extra. Grin. Generally using a torque wrench 24-28 in-lbs is what they end up being set at. But that’s with good scopes, put most at the pressure and the erector will think it took viagra.

Bump on this thread. Just wondering if anybody has gone up to 30 in/lbs on sportsmatch rings? I mounted a set last night and stopped at 22. Even that seemed to high.

Also wondering if anyone can explain why these rings are often recommended over a rail/ring combo?

20 in-lbs will hold the scope fine if everything is degreased and loctited.

The reason for using the SM over a rail/ring, is the elimination of another set of screws, better cheekweld, and more durability.

I did degrease and was shocked at what came off.

Me too ... I can't thank Form enough for that scope mounting thread! :)

My minor additional tip is to also degrease the top of the ring screws before adding the nailpolish ... the recesses in mine were filled with oil.

Ya, disassemble one at a time and spray down with gunscrubber or carb cleaner. All that oil will definitely cause problems.

Slight threadromancy, but just got a new pair of T084s in today.

My old set said 30 in/lb for the rings, and 66 for the bases.

New set say 15 and 55 - which is also what their website says currently.
