I was looking at videos of comparing different fire starting materials instead of using cotton balls/Vaseline all the time and came across this. Basically just using these cubes and a couple rocks. REI's site says the cubes can be extinguished and reused, just wonder if they smell after that. Anyone ever try anything like this? I only use water for rehydrating meals and my Jetboil Zip weighs 20oz w/fuel, so could probably drop around a pound by using these and a titanium pot for water.

Check out the esbit stove at rei to go with them. 3.25 ounces, works great and will set you back all of $10. Plan on 2 cubes to boil water above 10k and/or below 40 degrees.
