Thinking about suppressing a rifle, current form is a .270 win fieldcraft. Looking at a 5” light suppressor, just want the benefit of needing less hearing protection. Always wear at the range regardless and typically hunting but can forget. Ideally like to keep the total length under 25”. Totally open to 30-06 rebarrel if that performs better in the 18” range. At the end of the day I could also buy a .308 for this project but really like the fit of the fieldcraft. Thank you for the insights.

With the rarity of Fieldcraft’s these days, keep yours as stock as you can get, and buy another rifle to fit the niche you’re trying to fill
and after you buy the other rifle sell me your 270

Years back a buddy cut down a Win 70 30-06 from 24” to 19” and lost virtually no speed with box ammo. As I remember it was in the neighborhood of 40fps and the accuracy improved. I’d think that a 270 would loose a lot more velocity when 5” is removed from the barrel.

I cut my tikka t3 06’ down to 20” threaded 9/16x24 and attached direct thread sico omega. Lost about 50fps- totally worth it
Love that rifle
