I have an opportunity to by a pair of Swarovski slc 10x42 hd binos, they have black on the inside of the barrels, i dont see many slcs that look like these. Wondering if anyone knows the difference between these and a newer pair. The first two numbers of the serial number is 80. So i assume they are a 2010 model?

Post a picture. There was an earlier SLC HD prior to the current model, I thought 2011-2014,5? It was an excellent binocular with closer focus range than the current version. It used to retail for like $2200, when the EL SV was $2500. No field flattener was biggest difference between models (obviously not open bridge design). They have EL style armor.

The current version SLC somehow dropped in price to $1700-1800 range. SONA wasn’t ever really clear about what changed.

The version before that was an SLC Neu. This was a highly rated binocular, but not HD.

So the original SLC HDs with the Black on the inside of the barrels are the best Slcs you can buy. They had the internals of the ELs, same glass and the close focus but no field flattener like was stated above. They are by far the hardest ones to find. Great deal if you snagged a pair of them for a good price.
