I have some 350gr Swift A-Frames I want to load up for my 450 Marlin. It's the A-Frames designed for lever guns. I'm able to find 45/70 load data but nothing for the 450. If someone has a Swift manual I'd surely appreciate some help. I've seen 7 bears in the last few days and I'm getting itchy to go hunting.

What powders do you have on hand?

Just looking back through my data, I've only ever loaded the swifts once.
My COL was 2.55" & the load was 45gn of IMR 4198. For some reason I've only got one velocity reading written down: 2058fps & I didn't make any accuracy notes. I'm guessing it probably wasn't very good, because I know I ended up hunting with 350 Hornady fp.
Never did kill anything with it & then sold it.

I'm sorry I don't have any better details! It was only the second caliber I ever reloaded for & I was literally just getting started. I didn't know how important good data collection & note keeping was back then!

I'm guessing that you could use the H4198 quite effectively. Maybe start around 43 & work your way up until you see pressure signs. It's a little slower than the IMR powder, but they're 'almost' interchangeable.
