I’m heading to Montana next week. Was planning to use a floorless tarp. With the warmer and dryer weather, I’m starting to get a little concerned about bugs and ticks.

For you folks that have hunted archery elk in Montana in this type of weather, what’s ur bug and tick thoughts regarding a tarp?

Thanks!

Very interesting. What about mosquitos?
For the most part the west is already cool enough this yr the bugs are already getting knocked out.

I'm from Oregon but last week we were getting some flys and bees during the heat of the day but by dark all the bugs were down for the night.

Guess what? We don't have chiggers either lol. Big difference between critters out here, and what we got down south. If you're worried, spray your clothes and gear down with permethrin and rock on.

I slept in a floorless shelter this summer in the Adirondacks. It was pretty buggy. We slept with our bug nets on and covered up with our sleeping bags. At 1/2 ounce, it might be worth it to toss a bug net in your pack.
