Testing Methods for Optics

Hey guys,

I have started the plunge in researching to upgrade my optics this off season. Aside from the big box stores like Scheels and Runnings, there just isn't anywhere to field test optics around here. Even the places that carry them, testing in the store under fluorescent lights isn't exactly reliable. What has everyone else done when trying to compare side by side in real life situations?

Thanks for any help!

Find a birding club and go on outings with them. I did that the last time I looked at spotters. Bird folks will shell out a ridiculous amount of cash to see a warbler.

Otherwise, I've worked it out with store clerks to go outside with the binocs. Usually involves me separating with my wallet, or the clerk going with me. Really dependent on the store and clerks.

Renting is another option.

Last resort. I bought both Swaro and Leica rangefinder binocs, and returned the ones I didn't like (the Swaro's).
