This year my dad, son (14), and I are headed out for an antelope hunt together. They both have a buck and two doe tags while I just have a buck tag. My best friend Rob is also joinimg us with his son (3).

The drive is about 15 hours for us so we all met at my dad's cabin last night which gives us an hour and a half head start. We will drive part way today then pull off for the night before continuing the rest of the way tomorrow.

"Camp" is set for the night. We should hit the hunting area tomorrow around noon.

First goat is down. Dylan got this nice doe first thing this morning. He shot it at 280 yards with the 6.5 Cheater mag using the Spartan Valhalla bipod. Really windy today and now it's starting to rain.

The temp has dropped almost 50° since yesterday and the wind is howling. We are seeing some antelope but struggling to get shots at them in this weather.

We got the thtree does hung and skinned and headed back out for an afternoon hunt.

Didn't take long for us to find a herd with some bucks in it. The stalk was about 3/4 of a mile and Dylan got a shot at 280 yards. Perfect double lung shot and the buck was down.

After getting Dylan's buck gutted and packed out we headed to another spot to look for some more. We found a small herd with a nice buck in it but they were continually moving and we couldn't get set up for a shot before they made it out of sight. Didn't see much else but had an awesome sunset to finish a great day.

Nice.

What is the purpose of wearing gaiters in that country? (I've never worn them anywhere, so just asking).
I'm wearing them to keep my legs a little warmer mostly. Much easier to take off compared to long johns imo.

We got a short break from the winds this morning and spotted a good sized herd about a mile away. Dylan, my dad and I hiked after them but they were gone when we got over to where they were.

As we were hiking back we had a fawn come running up from a draw on our right. We took some photos and were just about to continue hiking when it ran passed us and joined a small herd that had come up out of a draw behind us, on our left.

Dylan layed down and picked the biggest doe. He had to wait for a good angle and then was able to fill his last tag.

We cut up and vacuum packed the first five antelope this afternoon before heading out for the evening. Did a lot of glassing and saw a bunch. But, no bucks we could make a play on. We did spot a couple just before dark that we will try for in the morning.

Here are a few pics from today and our dinner tonight. Fresh antelope steaks and mule deer chedder brats from my hunt earlier this year.

Rough morning for us. We've seen a pile but not able to get any of our last three tags punched. I had a shot at a nice buck midmorning but I ranged some sage in front of him at 1046 yards and it turned out the antelope was at 1153 yards. Needless to say I made the dust fly way in front of him.

We did see this badger hunting prairie dogs which was pretty cool.

The morning was slow but things picked up this afternoon. We were just pulling into camp when we spotted a small herd a few hundred yards away. We saw that there was a buck with them so dad got set up for a shot. The whole herd except for a couple does fed behind a hill and bedded down.
