So I FINALLY got out to break in this new barrel. I shot some old 160 grain Cor-Lokts, so I really can’t give you any ballistics, but obviously not the best. Either way, I was extremely happy with how the rifle shot immediately.
All shots were fired at 100yds from a bench rest. There was an intermittent crosswind 5-10 mph.
The break in process was as follows:
1 shot, cleaning the barrel after each shot. Do this 5 times. Shown in pic #1.
Fire a 3 shot group, then clean. Pic #2

Next time out, I’ll zero using my hand loads.
These use 160 grain Barnes TSX flat base bullets and 60.5 grains of Reloader 22 powder. This is the recipe I’ve used for years. I hope to see a noticeable decrease in group size.

Looks great. How does it shoot?
Finally shot it for the first time the other day. I was just breaking in the barrel with some old junk rounds, but super happy with the groups I was getting. Next time out, I'll be zeroing with my handloads, so I should see more improvement then.

OK, the rifle is set! I'll add pics later, but this rifle is shooting great! In fairly windy conditions (10-15mph gusts), my final 5-shot group was sub-.75MOA. This is with my handloads, which are Barnes 160 grain TSX FB loaded with 60.5 grains of Reloader 22 powder. Once I get back from my Idaho hunt, I'll start playing around with some new loads. I plan to try a couple different Hammer bullets, and, if I can get my hands on some Reloader 23, I'd like to try a few recipes with that as well.

Wish me luck in Idaho!

So the rifle is 1 for 1! I wasn’t able to catch up to get close enough to any elk or deer, but I was lucky enough to cross paths with this beautiful cinnamon color-phase black bear. This boar was my first ever bear. While it may not be the biggest, I can’t tell you how happy I was to be able to take it.
