I have a T3x 6.5 CM that shoots tiny little groups. I ended up replacing the stock, bedding it, and cerakoting it just because. It's a great gun

I like it so much I did the same thing with a T3x in .308. Turns out that it is much more fickle on ammo choice. I found some it shot well but ended up selling it.

Does this help with accuracy/longevity/durability (or all three)? Pretty simple, low cost changes, right?

Those are two of the differences that mattered the most to me... recoil lug is up gradable - and I think that MAY add to long term durability and accuracy. Bolt shroud was a durability thing for me as I hated the plastic (I never had a t3 myself... but we have 3 t3xs now). I upgraded the magwell/trigger guard to the machined aluminum ones as well for the same durability reason.

Other changes are: stock upgrades/recoil pad upgrade, re-designed ejection port, improved rail.

For me, they all added up to being worth it - but again, I didn't upgrade from a t3... my wife and I went from savage rifles to tikka - FWIW I much prefer the tikka synthetic stock to the savage synthetic stock.

About 8-9 years ago I bought a Tikka before they were really popular. About the time you could pretty easily get a SS T3 for $429 or so.

That gun - a 243 - is a typical Tikka. A little slow in the velocity department, but lacks nothing in accuracy.

Fast forward to the 6.5 craze, and I found a price is right Tikka CTR. Chopped the barrel to 18, threaded, and stuck a TBAC Ultra 7 on it. There is so much pleasure derived from a no recoil, quite, accurate rifle.

Definitely was looking at the ss versions a few years ago and wish I would have pulled the trigger then rather than a few weeks ago.

I have two. A Tikka T3 .300 Short Mag and a T3X .243 Winchester. Both are more accurate than I am and are a great foul weather gun. I keep all my guns doused pretty well with Ballistol and havent seen any rust issues after many rainy and frosty days afield on the Tikkas.

General tikka question ,,, with the older T3 in a 308, do I need to replace the recoil looks lug? less than 20 rds total, 2-3 per year deer hunting?

What ? Replace recoil lug , why ?
The older model T3's were made with an aluminum recoil lug. Some folks experienced issues with the aluminum lug when shooting high recoil calibers. E.g. 300 Win mag.

Tikka fixed this problem by building the newer T3X models with a steel recoil lug.

If you have an older T3, it's pretty easy to replace the aluminum lug with a $25 steel recoil lug.

I doubt it is worn out, just wondering if it needs "upgraded" since it is one of the larger calibers?
Based on how little you shoot, I think you would be fine. I have a few hundred rounds over the last few years with my 30-06 and my recoil lug looks fine. If you wanted to check, just pop the stock off and look. Mountain Tactical in Bozeman sells a steel replacement one if its worn.

Don’t own one...yet. I’ve got two buddies who both bought 30-06s and one buddy who has a .300 Win Mag and they all shoot.

If you take a look at it by pulling out of stock you can see if the aluminum has dented. It may not affect the accuracy of your rifle, but if you have visible impressions I would replace.

Another past due update on the rifle you all made me buy... took my son (7) and niece (14) hog hunting. Niece shot a dandy with my T3X in 6.5CM at about 50 yards on the third day. Shot was a tad low, but the hog dropped right there. It was still moving a little so she pumped a second round into him. Bullet was a 143 ELD-X handload that I recovered on the opposite shoulder (never got the second shot). Came apart and lost over half its weight but the lungs were a mess. The rifle has been really accurate and great to hunt with. I shot one of my three animals in WY with it last Oct. Might have to pick up another one!

I love my Tikkas. However, I don't like the stock on either the M595 or my T3. And their 30 Caliber offerings only have 11 twist barrels for some reason.... Tikka has several left handed options which is helpful to me being a lefty.

We own 4 Tikkas in our household. All of them are shooters, and even with the stocks which I don't like, they haven't required the same accurizing upgrades as my Abolt, Savage 11, or Win Model 70 in order to shoot consistently. I'm currently customizing my 300WSM to a 6.5 SAUM bc I had two WSMs and wanted to try something different, and the Tikka platform allows for easy conversion from short action to long for extended COL on the short magnums, if I choose to go that route later.
