Based off of the almost 20 page thread in the long range forum, I think they'll work great. I dont have any worries with the moderate velocity of the creedmoor. I hope to contribute to that thread with my experience.

Agreed. Not worried about them working. I have a shorty 6.5 slinging them a lot slower than my Tikka. Hopefully both rifles get a chance at a critter this year. Mostly just enjoy seeing additional data and if there's an occasional exception and the specific details with it.

Now to decide which one to keep. Both are nice rifles. The SL is about 2.5oz lighter but not likely to accept threads. The standard t3x will thread 1/2-28 and lose 4-8" of barrel which should be 4-8oz. The question is can she go on a diet and get closer to a Kimber?

You got the best valued gun around. Love mine. PM me if you want to do a quick and easy camo paint job, I can give you some tips. Mine turned out well (sorry no pict on this computer). Also if you want to take full advantage of the long throat of the tikka, handload. You can get in the 2900fps+ range safely with 143 ELDX without pressure, you just have to load long (Compared to 2650 with factory). Have downed 4 animals this year thus far and it is a performer. Happy hunting.

because i'll be cutting into the fluted portion and want a solid shoulder. if i were cutting less than 4" off then i could still thread it.

I need to make some calls. I have read folks say there is problem when they machine/ cut the threads to do it in the fluted area but I’m not sure. I’m not a machinist so I don’t know, maybe it’s hard to cut without chatter?. If the machine work is done square I can’t see a downside as you will still have an effective shoulder. Solid vs fluted shouldn’t matter as long as it’s square.

I was thinking of cutting it down into the fluted area and installing a 9/16 thunderbeast CB mount if I can get enough shoulder diameter at 18-20”. I’m just not sure if a smith will be willing to cut into the fluted area.
