Hi There, New here. I recently picked up a .223 Tikka T3X varmit. 1:8 twist, 24" stainless heavy. waiting for the ORYX stock to arrive. which should be here this week. prior to this gun i have a savage mod 12 in same caliber and it shoots very well. It likes the hornady 53gr superformance.

I have been shooting the new tikka a bit , basically doing some grouping at a 100 yds. it shoots the 53 gr superformance pretty well. question is ...
would like to shoot 300 meters, and have read that a heavier bullet will work better. so looking for some recommendations on some ammo to start with .

thanks.

Find the 223 thread it has a ton of good information. Most like the 77 grain Sierra TMK.

With the varmint having a 1-8 twist you should be able to stabalize any of the factory match ammo in the 75-78 grain. Federal gold medal match is usually a pretty safe choice for good accuracy.

Honestly, you don't need a heavier bullet to go from 100 to 300 meters. Once you get to 500-1000 a 70-80 grain bullet will help you, but to 300 a 50-55 will do just fine. You will have to learn to judge the wind with either one, so if you have a load that works at 100, shoot it at 300 to see how it does before changing your whole set-up to shoot heavies.
Unless, of course you just want to shoot heavies at all distances, then by all means, change it up.

i plan on zeroing in at 100 meters, as the one range nearby has 300 meter lane.

My tikka varmint was sub 1/2” all day long with a 77smk over 24gr of Varget in range pickup LC brass. Mine shot best 5 thousandths off lands and second best was 15 thou off.
