Trail camera location choice?

When going into a new area, what do people do to decide where to put a camera? Sign? Rubs? Or just a spot that looks like elk or deer would be? Salt licks?

Most critters need water every day.

Feeders, transit points. Point them North or South, not East / West due to sunup & down.

For deer mineral licks during the summer scrapes are great in October.

If I'm scouting new areas I look for water crossings that show heavy sign. Most deer will cross where its easiest at, and if I can get in and out by boat or kayak all the better.

angle them down from about 8' high if possible, face N/S, at crossings, water and minerals
