I've done some reading here already which was pretty helpful and gave me several options to look at. Right now, I just have a Primos trigger stick gen 3 with the "V". Works pretty good I guess, but I'm interested in trying something better.

I've looked at the javelin bipod davros head and flush cups which I could add to the trigger stick and keep my other tripod for optics.

I'm also thinking about a leveling base head combined with either a QR arca/piccatini adapter https://www.bisontactical.com/shop/tripod-picatinny-rail-adapter/
or perhaps even better, http://www.fieldopticsresearch.com/...tinny-Lever-Clamp-with-Pan-Axis-x36561171.htm

I don't think the pic rails would bother me on the stock and I think they are more useful than the flush cups? I like that head from field optics research because it could possibly be used for my optics as well as mount my rifle with a pic rail on the stock. I'm a bit worried about a wide forend fitting between the arca slot though?

Any thoughts?

I have used this triclawps rest mounted to this slick tripod for gophers in eastern MT. It works fairly well, but for me it doesn't come close to shooting from a bench with a rest. I've not ever shot from it for groups.

This Tikka has the same sirui base plate anchored in front of the mag well that I use on my bino adapters and spotting scope. I have separate base plates on all of them that just clamp into the sirui ball head. Arca swiss dimensions, dove tail style clamp.

Its fast and easy to change between any of them and the 2lb (ish) tripod and ball head will support the 10lb rifle entirely. 20190728_105609.jpg

Is that a QR plate with just one threaded stud? How secure is it to the stock?

Another vote for the Triclawps “clamp” mounted on a video-fluid head on a sturdy tripod. For additional rear support I made 2 DIY bipods- one for sitting height and one for kneeling. These are just aluminum coated garden poles cut to length and then lashed with para cord. It’s not long range, but I regularly shoot out to 550 yds with this setup comfortably. It’s not a bench rest, but it’s a hell of a good field-hunting rest.

It's a sirui QR plate that's bolted to the stock. The T3x has a threaded hole in front of the mag well with the same thread pitch as sling studs. I used a rasp to make a flat surface on the stock around that hole with a squared "shoulder" and bought a suitable machine bolt and torqued it down..it's plenty secure but i plan to beef it up. The bolt is snugged up and the plate locks into the shoulder I carved in the stock.

This was all experimental. This winter I will install another t-nut in the stock to anchor it with a second bolt.

This is the outdoorsmans pan head with their QD plate attached to an American defense picatinny sling swivel mount, attached to a Magpul rail section that is bolted to the bottom of my Tikka stock.

I know that’s a mouthful. But you can remove the sling swivel from the american defense QD Mount (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MBB94GW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ui.ODbGZ72Q99) and attach your qd plate for your tripod to it, but you’ll need to get a longer bolt and nut from Home Depot.

Then it attaches to a rail section on the forend of your stock. I use these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003F6EMQO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xk.ODb7YMTFBX

Now you can put your binos, your spotter, or your rifle on your tripod with the flip of a switch. The American defense mount lives on my rifles. Let me know if any of that wasn’t clear. It’s crazy steady and I’m carrying it all anyway.
