I get tested every 6 months. Not just T/free T, but an entire blood panel and prostate. TRT can thicken your blood so the doc will want to monitor hemoglobin or red cells. If you have a high PSA they will likely end your TRT. No problems for me in 3 years. Also, originally they started me on T gel. Its a daily shoulder cream. That never worked at all.

I have been getting my “T levels” checked for the past three years, mainly because I was tired in the afternoon, loosing focus and a little under motivated. My old Dr. said he would not recommend “T therapy”for me. Dr said my “T Level” for someone my age (51 years old) are on the high side at 755 and my “Free T” Level was 9

Fast forward one year, I changed Dr. only because I didn’t want to drive the 90 min one way.

New Dr. test my “T Levels” and at 52 years of age my “T levels” are 735 and “Free T levels” are 7. New Dr asked if I ever tried “T therapy”. I said no. After a brief discussion I went on a low dose “T Therapy”. It was great for 90 days I was stronger, my joints didn’t hurt as bad and had a lot of energy in the late afternoon. I ran my blood work again and after 90 days my “T levels” over 1000 and my “Free T levels” at 20. All that sounds good but my kidney and liver function were so out of whack that my new Dr. told me we a going to stop doing the “T Therapy” for 90 day and see how my Kidney and Liver function are doing.

Long story, I am going back to my old Dr. I will drive the 90 minutes one way

Appreciate all the replies!

The red blood cell count and thicker blood worried me a little bit, steroid cycles have that issue as well.

Did anyone need to see multiple dr to get the prescription? Seems like they don't giving TRT out too easily.

Go to a hormone specialist. I got a buddy who’s Dr put him on dissolvable tablets. He’s taking 200mg daily (started at 50mg tabs) and his levels have stayed at 280 and dr doesn’t look at free t levels either. Many places push tablets and pellets over injections as they make more money.

Will most likely have to donate/dump blood once every 6 months. Not a big deal.

I had to have multiple low tests 30 days apart for insurance to approve. No multiple docs needed, though. My red counts have been almost exactly the same as pre TRT. My free T tests at the high end of the spectrum or even a bit above. Thats the part the wife likes. The insurance companies and pharmacies do treat the stuff like they are giving you cocaine. I guess any good drug is harder to get.

Yeah they're adding insurance to my work place soon, I need to find a new dr and just gathering helpful information currently.

I have not had a blood test in a year but I wasn't high levels to start with, and I can tell it's getting much much worse. I have pretty much every symptom of low T and it's completely ruined my lifestyle. Even at the peak years of my life, I had low T but my dr wouldn't agree.

For those self injecting, where are you injecting and how is the soreness and post injection pain?

I switch injection sites - one week is my left thigh and left shoulder the next is my right thigh and right shoulder...really isn't necessary but I didn't want to get knots injecting in the same area twice a week. No inflammation or soreness to speak of.

I do it in my ass cheek or my thigh. Very rarely is it painful. Maybe one in 10 times.

That's odd. Either I did it wrong before or the long acting ester testosterone they prescribe is less painful. Good to know for sure.

I draw with the 18 gauge needle then put on 22 g x 1.5 inches. If you draw and inject with the same needle it will be painful. Just that one draw dulls that needle enough to make a difference.

There is a large nerve in the thigh. If you inject there, you'll learn where it is.

I’ve been to two doctors, actually the first one I never saw the doctor just his assistant ( there’s a better term for that position ) I switched doctors when she said she was going to check my prostrate. She was young girl really attractive and for some reason that bothered me. Now I wonder why, since I was unable to avoid it later, the second doctor, the one I have now took it easy with the doses for the first few years, but after we got it dialed in he let me ramp up to where I feel good about the amount and levels. I get blood and panels 2 times a year everything has gone well with that.
I started on insurance but went to self pay, I started paying more at a compounding pharmacy because the local cvs and Walgreens wouldn’t fill all the scripts, they think they are your doctor..
I’ve been on it about 5 years and it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done medical wise.
doctor visit is $140.00 twice a year, blood work went up to $ 220.00 twice a year. Testosterone is 200mg/ml I pay $95.00 for that, sucks because I can get it a half that price they just screw with me so much it isn’t worth the hassle. That last close to 3 months I think (.6 ml weekly)

Edit: the doctors I have used are from a major medical facility in one of the biggest cities in the US, so you can have good luck going the urologist route.

In mid 30’s was feeling sluggish. Testosterone test was 205. Next was 254.
Started taking test cip @ 200mg/week. Was feeling better in a week. Was like magic .
Been on it for 3 years now.

I inject in the thigh. Draw with an 18 guage and inject with a 23 guage. Cypionate is relatively thick liquid. Would be hard to draw with a 23. I never have had any soreness, except the very 1st time when a nurse did it. My secret is to inject very slowy. The nurse shot it in like a rocket and that made it sore.

I’ve been taking Testosterone Cypionate for about 3 years. My levels were less than 300 when I first was tested. Low T Center is where I started treatment. Complete rip off. Spoke to my doctor and he prescribed it to me and I now I pay nothing self injecting. I take 100mg per week w Test Cypionate. My levels now are between 800-1000. I work out 4-5 times per week and feel great. No more anxiety and sleep so good now. I could probably drop it down some.

Just had tests come back at 172 total and 35 free at age 34. . . Hoping it's finally an answer to my exhaustion, mood swings, and weight gain that seems unfazed by anything I try (diet, exercise, half marathon).

My question to guys taking T especially younger guys is are you taking HCG or clomid or anything like that to try to keep what production your body has and stave off testicular atrophy?

I'm in the research phase at the moment and have a Dr appt with my primary Friday. Not sure he is qualified but want to have a list of questions for him to get a read on Him and how he wants to proceed, also looking for specialists but it looks like nebraska is pretty slim on those!

Thanks for your thoughts,

You don’t want to take testosterone if you’re planning on having children. Period. I’ve been on it for over three years and can tell that my nuts have shrunk! Lol. I’m 46 and no longer have to worry about siring anymore children.

No. I just take vial or two, needles, and plungers in a pack. I’ve been doing it long enough that I could probably go back to injecting every couple of weeks because my levels are pretty high. In fact I will probably start dropping my dosage because I get puffy when my levels are between 800 and 1000.
