My dad (turning 70 next month) just has eye surgery to improve his vision. I guess they made one eye better for close and one better for long distance. When looking at glass (he needs to upgrade), what features should we be looking for? Locking diopter? Anything else?

I'm guessing 8x42's with lots of FOV would be preferable if someone has a suggestion there. He will try and keep it in the $400-$700 range.

I have pretty different vision right vs left and have found a locking diopter to be crucial. In that price range I'd definitely look into a pair of Leupold BX-4's. Should be able to get some well towards the low end of that price range.
