Looking to and have been e-scouting unit 161, have narrowed down the area we want to hike into. Curious on how the deadfall is in that unit. Have been hearing it is pretty bad but still plan on going. Just looking for more of a heads up on what we may be getting ourselves into.

I've been to a nearby unit. I would imagine the deadfall in 161 is horrendous lol. Doesn't bother the elk one bit. Prepare your legs for a good shredding and your hip flexors to be taxed.

That area pretty much has three types of ground conditions. Alpine, burned, and deadfall.

Some of the subalpine is easily passable.

It is bad… but honestly that is a lot of Co units these days… wear tough pants or bring some gear tape.

I've spent a fair amount of time in 6 and 161, there is a TON of deadfall. You're hip flexors will be hurting for sure.

Good luck.
