Well, it has been a good while since I've been on the ole' forum. I figured I should put up some sheep porn.

Went in for the opener with a buddy to help him get his first and hopefully punch my tag as well. I will not bore anyone with our pilot fiasco. Lets just say that as a resident of Alaska, you get put on the back burner when scheduling conflicts arise. With that said, I will more than likely never, ever, ever, ever, ever, pay a pilot to fly me anywhere after being bumped by a "reputable" pilot.

Anyways, enough complaining, especially since we got hooked up by Alaska Air Service with a last minute flight in. It wasn't the drainage I had planned to be in, but we were still in the mountains.

We did a lot of walking and glassing and didn't see a single sheep after 50 miles of walking. We saw a whole lot of caribou running the ridges though. Ended up blowing out of that drainage and spotted some lambs and ewes as we headed to a new drainage where we had seen a ram while we were playing sheep hunter on the top of a mountain. 15 miles later we were in the drainage where the rams were.

After we got his ram, we decided to blow out of there since it was so hot. Plus, the other ram with him was 4 years old at best, and the lack of sheep in the area made for tough hunting. We packed out to a new strip 7 miles away and headed for the barn.

His ram was 9 years old, 40" long and 13.5" bases. Not too shabby for his first sheep.

A couple weeks later I headed in solo and bagged a nice 9 year old double broomer with 13" bases. Got out in time to make it to the last day of the state fair with the family! You can't beat that!IMG_7214.jpg

I play hockey and am friends with your partner, he told me about the air transporter fiasco. You guys definitely got screwed by that transporter! Perhaps you didn't want to disclose more in order to keep the area on the DL. It could be a valuable lesson to other residents though, as an FYI this can happen to you and be prepared for the worst case scenario.

Way to persevere through that obstacle and make it happen on both rams! Two beauties. Congrats and they were very much well earned.

Thanks!

If Eric would hurry up and buy a plane, all of this could be avoided. Haha.

Hey, I would like to thank you for cutting us off from that ram in the pic we were after for over a day because it lead us to a 7yr old 39”, can’t be bitter about that but I expect more from a fellow sheep hunter...ABC20978-6055-42BA-891D-D7D51786A7BA.jpeg

I was waiting for you guys to get up there and talk to me so I could see what your plans were. You know, after you had just walked right by me. I know you saw me, since one of you waved. I guess you didn’t want to come up to the top and chat. I can’t help it that I was faster than you going up the mountain. You even had a head start.

Congratulations on your ram though.
