VA-5 Counter Balance?

I know there are a ton of VA-5 fans on here, but does the counter balance on it every bother anyone, or is that a feature everyone likes?

I tried one but I like to tip my panhead up before I pack my tripod away so that the handle is tight against the tripod legs, and the only way to do that with the VA5 is to actually lock it in that position.

It doesn't pop back to neutral position? Or you lock it?

I lock it.

I usually loosen the handle adjustment and point the handle down and between the tripod legs. Then base stays flat so no need to lock the base adjustment screw. I have found it to work better this way, especially in colder weather.
