I’m looking for a Rangefinder from vortex. I would primarily be using for whitetail hunting out of a tree but I do plan on doing some western hunting and don’t wanna have to buy a new set for that. Is an 850 enough for most western hunting or do I need a 1300. Also is the red reticle a must? I looked at one in the store and thought it made a big difference but wanted to hear from people with experience. Also how do I tell when looking online if it has the red reticle. I’ve been having problems trying to figure that out online.

I'd say it's up to you if you want an 850 or 1300, if you want to shoot that far or you're just curious. Red reading helps in the early morning light.

I had the 1300 and got up to about 550 on deer. 800 on reflective targets but never really pushed the limits on it. The red is very helpful.
