Anyone use this particular model from Vortex? If so what are your thoughts on them? I can get these at an incredible price and I'm highly considering them until I can afford what I truly want, Leicas.

After you use them you may decide that you "truly don't want" anything else... I've used a buddies 10x42's and loved them!
Guess I'd ask what binos you are currently using before saying anything else!

Check with Elknut before you buy. He's a Vortex dealer and could have beat the price I paid on my spotting scope even though I thought it was pretty good

Why do you want the 50 over a 42? Tons of good reviews on the viper hd line all the way around.

My 10x 42's were purchased after looking through a friends on a Nevada Mule deer hunt. A certain Elk fanatic was where I sourced mine.

I second the assertion about you may not need to "upgrade " to Leicas. Could it be the 10x50's are being replaced by a pair of 10x42's?

4.2mm exit pupil vs 5.0 mm might be marginally better at LAAAAAAST light but is it worth the weight?

I'm running 10x42 Leupold Pinnacles now.

There is less than a 4oz difference between the 10x42s and the 10x50s so I'm not concerned about the weight there.

And the Leicas I want are the Duovids 10-15x50. But those will have to wait a few years. That's why I'm looking at the Vortex since I can get them for almost nothing.

10X50 are not enough noticeable gain over the 10X42, the light gathering ability between the two is nil! The Viper HD 10X42 are awesome in low light conditions! Since you asked, I choose the 10X42! (grin) Yes, I've looked through them both!

I had the 10x50 hd vipers but the. Found a deal on slc hds. The knock o. The viper hd was that they had a narrow fov. I think the 10x42 have a wider fov and I don't know if you would miss the larger objective.
