At tonight's WDFW public meeting the WDFW Director stated that there is a petition to establish a spring 2022 bear season to be voted on during the Jan 21 2022 commission meeting and that it is imperative to let the commissioners know your position or they may not take up the petition.

Here is a link to contact the commission: https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/commission/contactHope this helps.

Please take a minute to voice your concerns. Even if you don’t hunt bear let them know that we want back our 2022 season! Thanks in advance ladies and gentlemen!

Let's try to keep this thread active. I somehow managed to miss the initial comment period for this and certainly do not want anything similar occurring in Oregon.

If there's strong data suggesting that current season structures or tag allotments are causing a major decline in any game species, I'm all for cutting tags or closing seasons.

That is very clearly not the case with black bears in Washington.

Does the WDFW not provide recommendations to the Commission?
WDFW Carnivore Section Manager supported the season and backed it up with data, the Commission voted against it based on social/anti-hunting pressure. One commissioner clearly has anti-hunting bias based on her statements alone. She believes hunting bears in spring is "unethical".

Yes thank you to all that signed the petition and those of you that emailed the commission voicing your concern with closing the season. My nephew saw 27 bears in 5 days during last years hunt. This isn't based on scientific data its being closed because of feelings!

Wow, 14 replies...and 329 views. Hunter apathy is off the chart.

Its started in CA....we got zero help from hunters across the country. Oregon next- no help from hunters. The antis just keep chipping away but the avg hunter across the country shrugs it off as its not in their backyard- YET....but by the time it does they won't have any hunters to help.

Its pretty sad that guys are more worried about their headlamp than retaining hunting rights.

I signed your petition- edit

and gave the commission an earful telling them they need to see what this has done in CA with the overpopulation of bears; property damage, additional resources used by F&G to mitigate problems, catch problem bears, etc- essentially expending time and money on a problem they created by taking away bear hunting seasons.

Comment sent. First the dog ban and look at the cougar population issues. The pnw is getting out of control with people that have no sense of the impacts of their choices.

Saving folks a step: if you submit through here instead of the public comment page, it'll get routed into all 7commissioners inbox directly. So your one comment turns into 7 direct engagements. Anti's had a national effort, we need the same!
