What do you all do for a rain cap in your wall tent? is it not that much of a concern? if using a rain cap do you get any soot landing on your roof? i built my own stove with a nested 5"tapering to 6" at the top and have been told mixed stories on rain caps. i'd hate to flood my stove out if it dumped real hard.

this style in particular

thanks!

If you are talking about a cap on the top of the stove pipe, yes. Most are sold as spark arresters, you want one. Either there as a cap or mid way as a combo spark arrester and heat capture device. I’m going to use both.

The only time I cover my tent roof is with a tarp to shed snow, or as uv protection of I’m in the desert for a longish stay.

roger. yep talking cap style with spark arrestor and rain cap on top. i have the regular ol mesh spark arrestor that just slides over the top of the pipe i'll use. im going to add in a baffle inside my stove so hopefully that will reburn any bigger pieces of ash and embers to hopefully minimize anything landing on the roof.

I just run it straight. Depends where you’re hunting I guess. I’ve had plenty of snow but never enough rain to flood out a stove. I mainly hunt Wyoming which is high desert anyway.

No cap here. That one you show in your original post will likely soot up and give you bigger problems than rain in your stove.

I’m going to try a 90 degree elbow on mine this year. I had some issues with mine last year mostly when I would head back home for the week and leave it up In the rain. The stove was full of water and had leaked all over the floor a couple times.

I used to use a cap/spark arrestor but I got tired of it clogging up with creasote. I just straight pipe it now and see no reason to change that.

Has anyone had any experience with the davis type of baffles? Do you actually notice a difference?

I just fab’d up my own large version of that tonight and threw it in. Currently out in the back yard with a fire going but so far not real happy with how much smoke comes out of the door when you open it.

Thanks for all the feedback tho folks. Ill take my chances with no cap and spark arrestor only. 👍🏻

never been a problem to just run a straight pipe. Say you have a down pour and it rains an inch of rain while you are out hunting... an inch of rain in the diameter of the pipe spread out in the bottom of the stove is going to be less an 1/4 inch deep ... start a fire.. .it will solve itself. and when you have a good fire going, it doesnt matter

Id worry more about other flooding issues that you discover if it were to rain that much

It's a way to sneak an add on item into the cart for the inexperienced. Using the damper properly will work best in controlling exhaust.
