I want to buy a new gun but im not sure i want to spend a few thousand on a Mark V. Ive always wanted a 270 Weatherby Magnum but they don’t make this cartridge in the vanguard line. I shoot tikkas and I’ve never owned a weatherby. Is it worth the extra money to get a Mark V over the vanguard? Should I look at getting a 257 in the vanguard instead of a 270 in Mark V. This gun will be 90% for deer. It will shoot 2-3 elk every 10 years.

I guess that could be an option. Does the ammo cost for a 6.5-300 more than the 257 or 270? The 6.5 would definitely be abetter option than the 257

I have a vanguard delux in 7mm rem mag that i love. I also have a regular .270 vanguard. Both are tack drivers and reliable.

I have two vanguards. A 270 deluxe, and a plain Jane 300 wby. Both are accurate and reliable. I want a back country in 300

Any if you with a 257 hunt elk with it? I really like a lightweight rifle and think that would be a great round in a light gun if it has the punch to kill an elk. I hunt elk with a 270 currently and have no issues with it but want to get a weatherby...

The only knock i've ever seen on the .257 wby is low bcs? And thats usually from the 6.5 creedmore crowd. I saw a meme the other day saying the 6.5 creedmore crowd is the manbun of the hunting world and spit my coffee all over my computer 🤣 although i don't totally agree with it i did find it pretty funny 🤣🤣

If you have a chance to pick up the Roy Weatherby book, he hunted all plains game with a 257wby mag. Remember, it’s all about shot placement.
I own Mark V’s in 300wby, 270wby and 6.5-300wby
Vanguards in 30.06 and 240wby

The 6.5-300wby is a tack driver of a round. You can get the 140gr soft point for $40ish.

Just get a 300 WBY and be done with it. I have hunted on 5 continents with that caliber, and it just kills if you can shoot it without flinching. I believe in just shooting one caliber so you're always used to it and it's natural whether you're overkill for a whitetail deer or you come up on a huge eland in Zimbabwe. Other than dangerous game, the 300 WBY will handle it.

I've got a Vanguard in '06 and a Mk V Ultralightweight in 270 Roy. To me, the Mk V is worth the extra money and I know its steep difference. Not knocking the Vanguard but there is a world of difference btw the two types of rifles. For a one gun safe, take a look at the 7mm Wby. Out past about 300yds it exceeds the 300 Wby.

110 accubond or 100ttsx is a literal death ray in the 257. Turns elk lights out just fine.

The mark v is a much better rifle, street price on the weather guard is less than 1200 and now Includes a threaded barrel and triggertech trigger. Easy decision for me. Any of the mid length weatherby 257,270,7mm are excellent candidates for a deer and elk cartridge. 270 and 7mm have better bullet choices if your buying factory

I actually think the Vanguard is a much better design than the Mark V, and I'm not the only person who feels that way. I highly recommend the Vanguard. I only have a 30-06 and a 270, so I can't comment on the Weatherby magnums.

I agree with amassi, everything I have hit with a .257 and 100ttsx drops instantly. Only time I have seen a Mt Goat drop with one shot was from a .257 bee and I have seen them hit with alot of much larger rounds.
