I cannot not the life on see find the weight of the 6.5 PRC in either of these models. I see 6.5 lbs for the mesa and 6.3 for the ridgeline but I feel that is off. When i go to the store the 6.5 CM seems to weight that much but the barrel profile is thicker and longer on the PRC.

If I recall, most people have said the Mesa comes in heavier than advertised, right at 7# I believe. The ridgeline will be right in @ 6.5#. Christensen has arguably the lightest carbon barrels on the market. Their actions are pretty light as well. Their stocks are what hold them back.

My Ridgeline in 6.5 PRC weighed 6lbs 12.6ozs WITH a 20 MOA Seekins rail on it. Didn’t weigh before I put the rail on.

Whats your guestimate on what that rail weighs? Couldn't be more than a few ounces correct?
also you saved me. I forgot to bring my scale to work with me today.

I wouldn’t think the rail weighs more than a couple ounces.

Here’s my gun all up. Nightforce ATACR 4-16x50 sitting in Seekins low rings and a Seekins 20 MOA rail. I actually pick it up from the gun smith tomorrow. It’s being bedded into a Manners EH1 which was 1oz lighter than the factory stock.

Very Nice gun. What does your scope weigh?

My brand new Mesa in 6.5 PRC is 7lbs 5 oz bare. Quite heavier than I hoped. Oh well. I have plenty super light rifles....
What? They advertise it to weigh 6#3oz. Well that’s for short actions. Guess it being a mag would up the weight some. But a full pound???
or is that the ridge line that shows 6.3?

Yup. It’s the barrel contour. The SA non-magnum uses about a #1 and the magnums are like a #3. Substantially heavier.
You are correct. I looked at them at Scheels and the difference in weight and barrel contours between the 6.5 PRC and CM are substantial. Plus the PRC is 2 inches longer.

OK... I went up to my buddies store and got some weights of bare rifles off the shelf.

CA Mesa 6.5PRC 7.55# or 7# 8.8oz
CA Ridgeline 6.5PRC 6.71# or 6# 11oz
So a difference of: 0.84# or 13.4 oz

To compare the 6.5prc (magnum barrel) to a regular mesa:
CA Mesa 7mm-08 6.7# or 6# 11oz

If anyone is interested, I compared a Browning HC Speed as well.
Browning HC Speed 6.5PRC 6.6# or 6# 9.6oz
(so it weighs just about the same as the ridgeline... actually a little less)

Thanks Mike for the homework. It blows my mind that the differences can be so far off. I wish companies were more honest on their gun weights.

I wouldn’t say they are not honest, they just use an avg vs having a weight specific to each cal. Think about it, a 6.5prc will have a heavier barrel then a 300wm if the same contour and length in the same rifle package.

So just remember any manufacturer weigh is a rough estimate.

I would agree with you but when you talk to them and they tell you a weight then you see real world weights are way off. Doesn't bother me too bad. I'm still going to pull the trigger on either a mesa or a ridgeline.

Sold guns in a retail location for years and its crazy how many people decide on a rifle because of and ounce here or there vs different rifle. We often weighed them to see that they contradicted what the manufacture stated. It always bothered me a little bit and was never quite sure which manufactures were trying to be dishonest. Stated bullet BCs bother me much more as so many consumers take the manufacturers data as gospel even though they are often over stated. A couple ounces on a rifle here or there won't make a huge difference in performance but a 10 % overstated BC and mean you miss a target. I realize that everyone should go out and shoot/practice/test gear but in today's world a majority of shooters are just going to trust the brand data.
