Just got back from a father/son weekend in the Davis Mountains. We hunted javelina and had an epic experience. Just thought I’d share an Aoudad hunting opportunity to fellow Rocksliders. If anyone is interested in hunting big free-range aoudad, they offer fully guided hunts, with meals and lodging in their first class safari style tent camp. The camp has all amenities yet is remote (6 miles into the ranch). It is truly a first class experience. We saw over 200+ aoudad over the 2 days we were there, some right from camp. The ranch also offers limited free range red sheep hunts.

If anyone is interested, call Jesse King at 432-294-2045 or check out their web page: www.flyingbranches.com/rancho-del-cielo/

Disclaimer: I have ZERO affiliation with the ranch. I am just a hunter and appreciative of big aoudad and quality opportunities and can vouch for the service, people, and animals. I’d be happy to talk to anyone who is interested and share my experiences!

Thanks for posting. I'm heading down in 2 weeks myself. Different operation though. Hope it's as nice as yours. Congrats.

Good timing and thanks for the post. I am doing the keyboard / phone work of researching who I want to book my hunt with. Posts like this help a lot.

Had the opportunity to head down to West Texas / Big Bend last week. While we werent hunting, I was blown away by the beauty and isolation. We didnt see a plane fly overhead the entire week.

What's the average shot distance? Do they butcher, or tell you .. you can't eat it? My guide in Marfa doesn't answer me when I say I want it butchered, and shipped frozen. Seems they let the meat become coyote food. Just saw you need your own sleeping bag. That's kinda difficult flying into Marfa.

To be honest, I'm not certain on butchering and shipping. This is very remote country and UPS or Fedex isn't next door. I'm sure they would accommodate however but can't speak for the ranch itself. Shot distance depends. It's big country. The rams in these pictures I could have shot within 150 yards.

Seeing stories like this make it hard to sleep. Have a hunt in the Davis Mountains booked for next November with my Father and son. Thank you for sharing!

I just got back from a hunt near Van Horn. Wonderful trip even though I was the only one in our group of 4 hunters that didn't get a ram. I could have shot some smaller ones, but was looking for something respectable. The other 3 were, 30", 31 1/2 and 32 3/4. That made 32 rams taken off the ranch this season with lots of smaller ones left to grow for next year.

I’ve hunted West Tx Aoudad half a dozen times in the last 2 years and my experience has been that the average shot distance is 300yds...we’ve hit em anywhere for 80yds to 800yds but it really all depends on how hard you’re willing to work for them. In my opinion the meat is not worth harvesting but to each their own.

I killed a 33" back in Feb. outta Marfa, and yes, apparently they dont like to eat them. Thought I was crazy even pulling out the back straps.
I havent tried it yet. Been working on the Javelina, which they dont eat either.
