Hi guys, looking to add a hunting rifle to the stable. I currently own a Tikka t3x lite left hand 30-06 with a leupold vx5hd 3-15x44, Remington 700 bdl left hand 7mm rem mag with a trijicon 2.5-10x56, ar15 5.56 16” with a sig 3-9x50, and 2 rifles I inherited, a sporterized lee Enfield no4mk1, and stevens 325a 30-30, both with open sights. I live in western Oregon, lots of thick brush with occasional opportunities for longer shots in logging clear cuts. The scoped rifles are somewhat unwieldy in the the thick brush, and for quick jumpshots have too much magnification on the low end. The 30-30 works well in the brush but doesn’t have the range that I’m looking for, which is about 350 yards. If I go with a bolt action it needs to be left handed. I’m considering the Henry long ranger, browning BLR, BAR mk 3, or xbolt micro midas. Maybe an upper for the AR but I don’t think there are any calibers that are elk capable out to 350 yards. Possibly even a savage 99 if I go to the used market. Requirements are rifle weight under 7lbs, 20” barrel or less, and lefty friendly. I plan to top the rifle with a LPVO scope. Looking for any recommendations! Thanks.

If it's in your budget...
Blaser R8 Professional with 20.5" barrel in 308, 30-06, or 6.5x55.
Lefty available.
Very handy.
Very accurate.

Looks like a very nice rifle! Maybe a little too nice. I should’ve specified that I’m looking in the sub $1000 price range.

There are few Savage 99s and Winchester 88s on gunbroker. You may be able to snag one for around $1000.

Browning BLR is a good option. I think it might be a little over $1K.

A good bolt gun cut back to 18 inches might work out.

I would think a AR10 in 308 or 7mm-08 could meet your intentions? I too live on the coast and understand your challenges. My wife and youngest are both lefties. One shoots a 30/06 and the other a 280 Remington. Both solid to 350yds and 25yds for the reprod and thick timber. But cover the morning and evenings at the clearcuts

I hadn’t considered an AR-10, that is definitely an option I will look into. What magnification do you guys run on your rifles?

Our scopes vary. 2.5-8,2.5-10,3-9,3.5-10,4-12,4.5×14.3-15, 36mm,40mm,44mm,50mm
Just depends on each individual choice? And what fits well with each individual rifle.
