What can you tell me about this vintage (early 80s?) Tasco?

Hi all,
New member but longtime lurker. Have learned so much from all of you guys.
Growing up, my friend and our dads used to shoot a lot, but the extent of all of our scope knowledge was that they made things look bigger. Getting back into things over the past year, I've had fun learning about scope technology and have had the chance to use some great scopes.
My grandfather recently passed away and we found this in his closet. The box says 1981 but the paperwork says 1984, if I remember correctly. It is quite long and skinny compared to my Viper and Z3.
I know Tasco gets ripped on but the box does say made in Japan, and I believe they went through a period of making good glass in Japan at one point. I cant find much about it online except one on ebay and a few other places saying its "good" for the price.
Were both about 99% sure it hasn't been taken out of the box more than 4 or 5 times and definitely never been used on a rifle.
My dad has a fixed power Tasco from the same era on his Remington 700 .243. He was thinking he would sell this and I'd like to throw in some extra coin to get him an upgrade since we're getting back into it and I'd like to do something nice for him.
Thanks for all the help you've been. What a great community.
