So I went to see my friend Tony today. I wanted to make a DIY bear claw necklace and wasn't sure what type of epoxy to use for bone, I had called to ask him last week because he builds custom trad bows and often does bone inlays...figured he would know what works best. He told me to swing by on the weekend and he would mix me up some of his special blend. We got that out of the way this morning and he got to showing me some bows he has on the go. One was almost finished and I was able to put some arrows through it...Tony may not be the best marketer but all he has to do is put one of his bows in your hands and the salesmanship is done. I've always been a wheel guy but I'm proud to say I put my name on my first stick bow today, can't wait for it to be finished and get some more confidence under my belt with it! Still lots of practice needed but in about half an hour I could at least put down a loose group at 15 yards, depending on how much practice I can get in before May this might just come out to the bear woods with me this year ;)

Don't mind my kids pokemon cards, I'll be sure to get you some better bow porn when it's done

Edit:
Oh! Some specs! 68" 43#, black locust limbs, eastern maple core, yew wood handle and layers of bamboo, zebra wood, more eastern maple and tiger wood for the riser with a moose antler inlay.

Ya I had to google "horsebow" when you mentioned that, with no point of reference it definitely does look like one but it's actually a pretty good size...68" to be exact. Moose antler inlay on the front and a smaller piece inlayed on the back as well as bone limb tips...not sure how he got the tips so dark but they look awesome, will take a close up this evening. There's a 3D shoot happening this weekend, I'll probably shoot my compound but will definitely bring the stickbow and possibly shoot a second round with it or at the very least spend some time shooting a few practice targets!

you are opening a BIG can of worms ;)

beautiful bow, that is a very pretty and unique bow. if you dedicate yourself to shooting a stick bow, you will be consumed.... it's a cool thing and has rekindled my fire of shooting, and then some.... it's pretty crazy.

pretty soon you will be proud of a 5" group at 20yds with that bow, and unimpressed with a 3" group at 40yds with your compound, haha

Dedicate? I think you meant obsess over  I have to admit I'm already pretty consumed, I've been shooting blank bale in the morning before work, working on grouping (still 15 yards and in for now) on lunch breaks and shooting after work when I can...shot some foam at a 3D on the weekend, shot one round with my compound and had planned to shoot a second round with the stick but there was some 40 yard pokes that most likely would have been RIP arrows so I just shot some practice targets. This is a can of worms I intend on thoroughly enjoying (including the hair pulling and migraines along the way) and I'm already beginning to see the compound as a utilitarian killing machine now whereas the stick is more an extension of myself as cheesy as that sounds...also doubles as a nice art piece on the wall when it's not in use ;)

Don't mind the hideous arm guard, on my way to pick up a custom leather one on my way home today.
