Seated, arms over my knees. A position I've practiced out to 500 yards and it's my favourite fast/stable postion to use (shot a coastal blacktail @ 420 yards in that position, bang flop). But this time I was sitting to stay concealed while calling. The bull walked into the clearing and shot him at 25 yards

I just always use my tripod and it is all I practice. It is far too versatile and as steady as prone in all the shots from the side of a mountain.

There isn't a really a lot of reasons to practice anything other than tripod for supported shots.

Only other thing I practice is unsupported field positions and off my pack.

Bipod is for limited range work and load development.

Figured I'd cast my vote since I filled my first tag. Sitting shooting off a downed tree at 190 yards or so.

Sitting with rifle across top frame of my pack... woobie under elbow made for an extremely solid hold, 525 yds w/a 7# rifle

Ditto on the fallen log. Was rock steady. Clean missed one the day before, standing with sticks, while under duress. Never again. If there's a tree standing or fallen, I'm using it. Using sticks during a quick fluid encounter is only asking for problems. If I'm sitting with sticks and have time to set up properly, maybe.

All of my elk except for one have been sitting or kneeling with my rifle on a set of shooting sticks. I’m very comfortable with that setup out to 450.

I had a weird position I have never been in before.

Hill I was on was so steep down and I was shooting up a ridge across the valley I couldn’t get comfy prone.

ended up using my bag to rest rifle on and then had to lay down on my back to get the shot. It was silly stable to my surprise and worked.

Off hand at about 50 yds. It happened fast and I was still wearing my backpack. I've shot variations of @Formidilosus drill some over the last year some (not as much as I probably should have) and I'm kind of glad I did.....

So I'm on my third year hunting elk.
2019 - I missed at 440y laying prone. Spent a lot of the off season working on my shooting.
2020 - 2 elk: cow at 33 yards siting, rifle resting on one knee & then a bull at 40 yards, standing off hand
Had a miss on a late season cow at 520 yards trying the tripod for long range for the 1st time.
Did a ton of work on the long range efforts in the off season.
2021 - 2 elk: bull at 140 yards, standing, rifle rested on a pine branch & then a cow at 650 yards, sitting, off the outdoorsman's tripod.
