I'm an avid fisherman but this years moose hunt will be the first time I'll be doing some fishing out of camp up in AK. I have a pretty nice Fenwick medium-fast spinner rod so I've got that covered. What are the essential lures of choice and how many do you usually take? I was just figuring on a few medium spoons and spinners and that would be it. Thanks for any insight.

a lot depends on where you are and what you want to catch. For char (dolly varden), trout, and grayling, look at silver bladed Mepps, Panther Martins, and Vibrax, especially with pink, orange, or red bodies.

Thanks guys. I have some of those and I'll likely add a few more. What weight are you generally throwing? I was thinking some of each 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4.

Silver and Copper P-Line spoons 2/5 ounce
Gold, Pink, and Orange #4 Vibax Spinners
Rapala Countdown Minnows Size 3 and 5 (Rainbows crush these)

Look into a simple drift setup too. Pencil lead and a bead, corkie, yarnie etc is deadly up there.

My buddy has backpacked into the headwaters of several world class rivers the last few summers in AK and the above list is all he takes.

Will you be lake fishing or river fishing? If you’re on a lake or river that still has some spawning salmon around, any egg imitations or beads will work great for dollies, trout, grayling, and a late silver. Vibrax with orange, red, or pink will work too. For lake fishing or river fishing without salmon around, I’d bring red, orange, blue, and gold vibrax and a couple of krocodiles too.

I'm actually not sure exactly where we'll be getting dropped at this point. So it could be either one. I plan on taking tackle for both scenarios.

Thanks for all the help guys!
