What’s your rifle weigh?

Been looking at ways to lighten my load. My current rifle is a rem 700 sendero in 300wm, weighing in at about 12lbs unloaded. Tossing around the idea of a new rifle, mainly only considering a tikka or savage in their respective lightweight models. But if there are other options under $1k I’m all ears.

Man so many good options these days.....

Tikka probably best bang for your buck but I don’t own one, just have my preferences but they shoot. great.

Browning Hells Canyon 300 wsm $1050, 6.25lbs. Shoots 165-200 gr partitions sub moa.

Just bought an older 90’s Rem ADL 260 22” for $525 off GB for my wife that has a B&C Light Varmint stock on it, shoots 140’s lights out, weighs 6lbs 1oz on the nose, didn’t remember these being that light. I told her she needed to go shopping for her own rifle cause I was claiming that one haha.

I have yet to be begin to procrastinate.

Kimber Hunter in .280 Ack. Imp. with one piece Talley rings and Burris Fullfield E1 4.5-14 with level bubble. Got the stock bedded and the trigger lightened up. Got the rifle on gun broker for $740.

7lbs total unloaded. Hunted with a similar setup last year that I borrowed and it makes an awesome difference over what I’d call normal weight rifles like yours and my older 30-06 setup. We don’t even pack slings anymore. You can hand carry it all day without a problem.

Thanks for the input, I was only really looking at magnum caliber rifles. But I’ll look into some other calibers as well now. Factory ammo availability is important since I don’t plan on reloading.

Sounds like you’re wanting a push feed, 2 position safety, but if CRF/3 position safety works for you, any of the magnum caliber Kimber Montana’s can be had for under a grand, if you shop around. After throwing another couple hundred at my .300wsm Montana, it comes in at 5.65 lbs. naked, and shoots lights out.

After a quick search on GB.

I am more familiar with push feed actions, but I’m open to controlled feed as well. 5.6lbs is incredibly light! You guys are making it hard to keep my money in the bank. Looks like I’ll have to look into the Kimbers. Thanks!

I run a T3 Swede in a wildcat, Talley rings, swarvo z3 3-9x36, loaded with 3 rounds, 6 1/2 lbs on the nose after cutting 2” off the barrel and fluting. Sounds like a guy can pick up a stock kimber for a bit cheaper tho, but reviews kinda sound hit or miss.

Bighorn TL3 built on a MPA BA light chassis. 6.5 CM. It’s changed a bit since this pic. Upgraded to a proof barrel to lighten the load. Swapped Hybrid for an Omega.

I’ve got it down to 12lbs loaded with bipod, suppressor. I know some guys would scoff at lugging that around the mountains... but the way it shoots it’s worth it. Heavy rifles are much easier to shoot, and I’m out their to shoot something after all. Too me 10-12 lbs is the perfect balance of shoot ability, portability, and accuracy potential.

Sako Carbonlight in 6.5cm with a Swaro Z3 3-10x42 6.54lb empty

Kimber Montana 338fed with a few light weight mods and the Z3 is 5.8lbs scoped

Add 15oz for a set of talleys and a Z3 3-15x42(13oz)

Adirondack 6.5cm before mods is 4lb 13oz
Montana 280ai is 5lb 10oz

Few lightening mods can be done to the Kimbers to lighten them up further.
Slab action
Barrel chop to your desire
Ti Bolt Handle (0.9oz saving)
Aluminum trigger guard if you have a stainless one (2oz I believe in savings there)

My tikka 300 win superlite is 7.3 pounds with a vx3i and B&C stock. Wouldn’t want to go any lighter on a magnum cartridge.

The weight sounds awesome but my shoulder already hurts thinking about it. Think I’d almost have to go 308 to not have an involuntary twitch. Couldn’t shoot 300 WIN MAG enough to beat that out of me. My shoulder would fall off first.

The stock adds a bit of weight over the factory (6-7 ounces) and handles recoil very nicely. Recoil is definitely noticeable but not unbearable by any means.0D861D06-9AE2-4052-8761-8730A85BE943.jpeg

My thinking is that, if all goes right, I just need to feel the recoil once. I’m thinking 7-9lbs might be the sweet spot? I may pay for it during practice days at the range, but I’ll be happier in the field.

I have a Kimber Montana 7mm-08 with Swarovski z3 3-9x36. It is really a joy to carry in the mountains. I no longer use a sling. I have shot this and 280 AI kimber and recoil was less than my browning xbolt .308. They really don’t seem to have felt recoil inline with their weight.

Roughly 10 lbs. Weatherby 300 win mag with leupold 3-10x50 scope, tally rings, 3 rounds in gun and 9 on stock, no sling, short bipod. Worth the extra weight for me to have a gun I am comfortable and confident shooting and the setup didn't break the bank.
