What’s your rifle weigh?

The way I see it is, I’m carrying my mountain rifles waaay more than I’m shooting them, and the one that I take up into the mountains, is the lightest one that can get the job done. If I was stepping out of my truck and killing something, or packing in on horseback and doing very little hiking with any wt. on my back, it probably wouldn’t matter to me how much the rifle weighed. My last mountain hunt last year was a Dall sheep hunt, and we spent 10 days hiking, covered about 90-100 miles, and probably 70% of that time was with full packs and even heavier packs when we killed a sheep. If my only rifle option was something that weighed in the neighborhood of 11-12 lbs., I probably would have just opted for taking a pistol. No way in hell I’m carrying that heavy of a firearm into the mountains, I’m just not strong enough.

My long range rifle weighs right in at 10 pounds scoped with a bipod and sling, 24 inch proof and a mcmillan A3 Sporter edge. Taking her to Idaho tomorrow to let the air out of a bear or two.06A59BC0-62BA-47D0-B83C-C6ED87567DA5.jpeg

I have a Kimber Montana 7mm-08 with Swarovski z3 3-9x36. It is really a joy to carry in the mountains. I no longer use a sling. I have shot this and 280 AI kimber and recoil was less than my browning xbolt .308. They really don’t seem to have felt recoil inline with their weight.
I ditched my sling when I got the Eberlestock Dragonfly pack with the rifle scabbard. If I'm in elk country and my tag is good, I want my rifle in my hands. If I'm hiking in the dark, it's in the scabbard.

47 and running a marathon next week and spend plenty of time in the backcountry. Carrying 5.5lbs in your hands is much easier than typical 10-12lb rifle.
At 47 that’s amazing man especially when such a majority of this country is extremely overweight from childhood on! Running a marathon is not in my realm at 31 it’s amazing to me that someone nearing 50 is doing it!

My Remington 700 Ti in 270 Win with a Leupold 2.5-8 in Talleys is 6 lb 6 oz.

My Tikka T3X SL in 6.5 CM with a SWFA 3-9 in Hawkins Hybrids weighs right around 7.5 lb.

After a particularly grueling (for me) backcountry hunt with my 9.5 lb 300 RUM, I bought the 270 hoping to take it on a sheep hunt one day. Eight years later, I got lucky and I am going sheep hunting, but I think I am going to take the Tikka. I just shoot it better.

Nice looking rifle Luke, but yeah, I have to question their quality control, it seems like they put the bolt on the wrong side far too often.

I eat and write lefty. Bowl equally as terrible (struggle to break 100) with either hand, and honestly doesn't feel that weird to shoot my bros lefty bow or rifle

That said I shoot basketball, throw baseball right handed, prefer right handed shooting, .....I'm all sorts of messed up. :)
I write and eat left. Shoot rifles left but bow right. Throw right, bat right, wipe with my left. Jab left cross right.

You aren't special
