I spent lots of powder with multiple 30-378's. That's was back when 210 was a big bullet. Brass was gone in 3 to 5 firings with velocity only 100 fps faster than a 300 win mag. I am not visiting that again for a while. I have had 338 LM's in Lapua brass ran at full throttle go 15 firings on brass. I don't see why I could not get close to that with a 30 cal version unless I ran it in "Oh Shit" mode.

Jeff,

Thank you for the input. I believe the Lapua family will be what I use.

Resurrecting this old thread. Anyone heard any rumors on this projectile? I have a 28" Proof CF barrel 9 twist 300 Lapua riding the pine waiting for it. Hopefully 9 will stabilize them?

And five years later he might get it:)
I read where he's changing that. I believe he is moving more towards off the rack rifles he's already completed, and less full custom rifles. Had the privilege of meeting him and shooting his rifles a few years back. Still have a grin on my face. mtmuley

I am running the 30-378. I have shot out another barrel so I went to a Lilja 30" #5 contour 3 groove with break making a 32.5" tube. I am running the 230 Hybrid Tactical at 3200 fps and getting great accuracy. Easily sub moa. I can push them to 3300 but starting to get pressure signs. I am looking forward to trying the 245's as well but am not sure as to how much advantage over the 230's I will obtain.
Best of luck on you choice.

I ended up building a long throated 300 RUM with a 30” CarbonSix barrel, I’m running 92.5gr N570 pushing a Berger 245gr at 3088fps with an ES of 9 without any signs of pressure shooting less than a half inch. I plan to push it harder after a few hunting trips this fall. If you plan to run a box mag go with a 300 Norma though. COAL is 3.935“ with my setup.

DO NOT start at this load. Every rifle is different and this could very well be over max for other rifles.

I was going to say if length restrictions are going to be present a 300 norma mag improved is about the best setup you’re going to get. Could have defensive edge + P the throat and pickup some more velocity. Apples to oranges but most improved version run the 230 3030+FPS. +P and you should be equal with the 245. If length isn’t an issue then it opens up a few more options previously mentioned already.
