Just getting into reloading for my 6.5 Creedmoor. Went to see what powder I could find and low and behold my local shop has H4350, Varget and Retumbo as well as a good selection of Alliant powder although no RL16, 23 or 26. I've heard Retumbo is a unicorn but how does it do in the Creedmoor? Which powder do you suggest I pick up? Or a little of everything?

I think you would get along fine with the H4350. Retumbo would be way too slow burning for the Creedmoor, but alot of people on here would like to know where it is for their larger capacity cartridges.

I've heard H4350 is pretty much the place to start. I was hoping to try some RL23 or 26 as well, and was thinking possibly some Varget with some 124 Hammers?

I knew Retumbo does better for the bigger cartridges, it's hard to let it sit on the shelf knowing how hard it is to come by. Might have to sit on it a few years for when I rebarrel.

If the 124 HH is on your list, Varget is first choice there. Varget for lighter bullets, and some H4350 if you wants to shoot some 140 class lead would pretty well cover you for powder for the 6.5 creed.

If you can buy H4350 get it while you can.
It can be hard to find because everyone prefers it.
RL16 would be my second.

I’ve never heard of anyone using Retumbo in creedmoor.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'll go spend a lot of money and be set for powder for awhile. Now if only finding primers was that easy.....

You couldn't find H4350 anywhere for months (maybe over a year) because Hornady used to publish the load data right on their boxes of 6.5 Creedmoor ammo (they don't anymore) showing H4350 and all the folks loading for their shiny new 6.5 CM's were buying it all up. H4350 is great powder in a lot of cartridges, but the CM nation made it hard to get (and it still is!). There's a reason for that.

If you can't find H4350 (and who can?) I'd try Varget, but that's nearly as hard to find too!

H4350 and reloader 26. Both under 143 eldx are less than .5moa in my tikka. Rl26 just gives me an additional 170fps...

H4350 is a solid powder for 6.5 creed. I have loaded a lot with that. My best load so far has surprisingly been with superformance though. Shoots sub 8" groups at 985 yards. ( just don't have the extra 15 yards on my property) Cheaper and almost always available too. Something else to try anyway. My creed seems to like heavier bullets too. 140 and up. Take it for what its worth. All guns are different.

I’m getting 2700ft/s with RL16 and Berger 156’s with very good numbers.

I’m using Rl16 with great results. Got me another 100 FPS over H4350.

What Bullet and weight? I didn't have much luck with RL16 and 143's, considered trying some Berger 130 gr H-VLD and 123 gr ELDM with RL16 but a hunting bullet takes priority over paper punchers.

I like the 143 gr ELDX and the majority of my loads are with them, IMR4451 provided some good groups but I only pushed it to 2670.

RL26 has been my go to over H4350. I have landed on a CBTO with RL26 that I want to try with H4350, if the groups improve it could change my mind.

Have you had any experience with RL23? I've heard it's similar to 26 but more temp stable.
I have not used rl23. Rl26 stability has been good for me here in the Colorado climate with confirmed consistency from 22-85 deg, velocity has always been 2790-2800. Similar experience with it in a 270win where it has proven consistent 0-80 degs.

139 Scenar and 140 BT. I see no reason to not use RL 16 so I’ve been using it exclusively with 130 AB as well. Also worked up a load for the 140 SST.

I’m using RL16 with 124 Hammers. 2940 out of a 24” barrel with great accuracy and SD of 12.

I run imr 4350 with 143 eldxs with good results. H4350 is hard to come by where im at but imr is almost always on the shelf
