Why are fixed power scopes pushed so heavily for hunting?

I’ve been to some pretty fancy shooting schools where guys shooting precision guns wearing fixed power scopes wiped up the competition who were using all kinds of high magnification Gucci optics. That didn’t necessarily mean their fixed scopes were better, just that they were capable. Maybe the world has changed in the last 10-15 years.

I own and use both fixed and variable. Weight penalty, cost/value, and reliability are reasons to consider a fixed power.

Even under minimal stress shooters commonly screw up utilizing their BDC under the wrong magnification (SFP scopes). Just my thoughts.

Sorry for the delay. Here you go.
The buck is bedded to the left of the tree and looking right.

The deer are at 3:30 from the sotol. They are quartered away and feeding up.
