The house I'm living in only has one safe, which stays at ambient outside temperature. So, with the extended forecast showing lows well below freezing, how much of a concern is long term storage in conditions like that? I know riflescopes are built to withstand cold temps, but freezing and thawing over extended periods of time doesn't really do any favors for lots of materials. Asked a bunch of my buddies, and they're about half and half.

So, what do you think? "Your optics are made for it, don't worry about it" or "doesn't hurt anything to keep them from freezing?"

I use a golden rod in my safes which keeps the temperature above freezing. ( Although to be honest they are used mostly to keep the dew point higher thus minimizing condensation risk). I have not noticed any change in POI or usability in any of the scopes that were kept in the safes prior to using the golden rods.
