What are your thoughts on the CZ Grendel? I've read mixed reviews on them, which really surprised me.

This pig weighed 202#. Only went about 20 yds after a 200 yd shot with the SST's. The 527 was A TON of gun for the money. Beautiful walnut and great blueing. The trigger was great...especially the single set option. I sold it off just b/c I always barter and trade guns. It was one of my favs, though.

Hog is what I'm going to be using it for. Land is down by the river and I've seen some decent size ones running around.

If hogs are what you're after, I'd steer you toward the 7.62x39 vs. the 6.5 Grendel. Based on my experience with 30+ hogs with the Grendel and 50+ with the 7.62x39, the latter kills more quickly. As a bonus, the ammo is cheaper too, which means more practice.

I'm going to stick with a cartridge better suited to long range. I can shoot up to about 800 yards out there (not saying I'm hunting at that range) so I'd like to take advantage of it.

^^^ you can find the CZ 557 sporter in 243 on Bud's for considerably less than the swede or grendel.

I owned one for a while. Really liked the 95 gr Fusion and same great walnut and blueing.

Hmmm...I may have to look into that.

This is the 243 I had. A vx-3i 2.5-8x36 fit it nicely with Warne's CZ rings/base combo.
