Good morning.
I’m doing prep work to paint the Bell and Carlson that came on my Win M70 Extreme Weather Stainless. As I was looking over it, mentally working thru which portions I need to mask off, the area where the rear action screw jumped out at me. This is the area circled in red in the pictures. Essentially, it looks like there’s a thin layer of fiberglass (or whatever material this thing is made of), then a gap of about a quarter inch, then the aluminum bedding block. This didn’t make sense to me. It didn’t seem like this thin flimsy spot would be where the action rests against the stock. I pressed on it a little with my finger, and it cracked. It’s still intact, as you can see, but no longer as strong as it once was.
Am I missing something? Did I just ruin my stock? Is this really the area that supports the clamping force of the rear action screw?
