I did not draw a buck tag this year but I have two doe tags for unit 42. I am familiar with the other side of I-80 and camping in the national forest from hunting elk in unit 10, but have never been in unit 42 or camped on BLM.

We are planning to go the week of October 20th due to my wife's work schedule. I am eyeing the BLM and walk-in areas in the center of the unit and the chunk of state area/walk-in area in the east.

Camping - Using satellite view, I don't see any established spots on the BLM land. Can I just pull off the side of the road or is that bad manners? Otherwise it looks like we'll be camping up in the forest or over by the reservoir, which are both a pretty good haul...

Any other input on this unit?

Generally you can just pull off and camp on blm.

Be aware you can't camp on state land though.

Check the regs for the walk in area as well, may have a designated camp site .
For BLM you can just pull over and camp unless restricted .
You shouldn't have any issues filling those doe tags in 42.
You might find doe right along the highway on the BLM and state sections.

Thanks guys. I was a little disappointed when I didn't draw a buck tag, but I'm looking forward to getting some experience hunting pronghorn and getting some meat!

Make sure to plan on some extra travel days just in case of weather and road closures. By mid Oct we could get quite a snow storm, or be in 60's.
Some good fishing near your hunting area and trout will be spawning.
