4 of us are headed out in mid September and are finalizing our hunt plans. Our go to spots right now are in 90, 94 and 104. The country looks really good up in 68, 81, and 83 though. We usually backpack hunt in CO but that won’t be happening in bear country. 2 of us have hunted in bear country in Montana before but with pretty low densities. Are the bear numbers that bad in 81 and 83 where you would avoid it? Appreciate any feedback from anyone with experience in the areas.

There will be a hell of a lot of people hunting in prime grizzly habitat this fall. Statistically, only 1 or 2 will have a serious incident. Traditionally, far more people are seriously injured/killed by horse wrecks/atv wrecks/heart attacks/getting lost/vascular injuries while quartering/gutting etc.... There are a million ways to die here, and bears are quite a ways down the list.

Most dangerous thing you're gonna do is get in your truck and drive, ranks way above a bear encounter.
