I am in the process of rebuilding my old 700 30-06 and recently ordered a V4 4-16 and Talley Low rings. I had to flip the front Talley base around to get it to fit, and I’m concerned that the front ring may be getting into the “ramp” into the bell. I can’t slide the scope forward any because the magnification ring is touching the base for the rear mount.
What should I do here? Will Medium Talleys give me the clearance I need? I have plenty of room for barrel clearance on the objective end and like having it low to the barrel.
Is it okay as is?
Thanks

I definitely wouldn't leave it like that.
Mediums would definitely help.
Or bevel it with a grinder.

But can you get the scope back far enough for eye relief?
Do you have clearance for the bolt so you do not rack your thumb?

Might have to go to a picatinny rail so you have more options where to place the rings.

I’d exchange them for extended rings first of all. That will move the front ring back by 3/8 and allow you to slide the scope back. Lows may work or you can use mediums. How does the bolt clear?

For reference here is mediums with the extended front and a 50mm, the 44 is next to it

Thanks for the replies!
The eye relief is okay where it is.
There is definitely not a lot of room for the bolt but it does clear.
With mine being a 44mm should I do extended lows, extended mediums, or regular mediums?
Would I be better off with a pic rail?

I had the same issue mounting a Burris Veracity on a long action savage. I did what Treedogs mentioned and beveled the back corner with a grinder and it's all good now.

I had to grind the front 2 ribs off this rail to get the scope back far enough for me.
Dabbed a little spray paint on it.
Its dis hearting I know.
Thats why you see alot of overly high scopes and rings for sale.
I used to think rails were so stupid but they do make it alot easier most of the time.
Thats also why gun smiths take forever and you see alot of rings for sale that didn't work.
