I see that game bags come in different sizes for elk, I was wondering what size to get since I don’t have much experience with them. I see that for elk they come in 48 and 60 inches, any suggestions.

Thanks

Even bone in, I have never needed anything bigger than 48". Bigger bags can be handy at a base camp to hang the meat.

If you are boning meat, look at the Tag Bomb bags and use that as a guide. Any boned out elk will fit in that set of bags. There are similar sized options from Blackovis and Allen and others.

I would think that one should look at game bags as if they could hold water and then size accordingly. With water being 8 pounds per gallon, you suddenly realize how heavy some of these game bags can get. I would also recommend that when you bone in, more numerous but smaller game bags would work better for weight management. Remember, you have to carry this stuff out, better to get smaller packages to carry. Your back and your legs will thank you later.
