I've used a bunch of different methods to convey coffee to my bloodstream when camping/backpacking or away from shops. The Wacaco Minipresso is my current drug delivery vehicle.
You can get them in two capsule forms or in a unit that handle grinds, this is what I have. There is now a Nanopresso model, I would have bought this if it was available at the time.
WACACO - Hand Powered Portable Espresso Machines – Wacaco
I recently used it for a month straight travelling around the UK and it was a Godsend as the Pom's just can't get coffee right....only bought one good cup the whole time and it was in Scotland, served in a cafe by a young chick from Sydney.
Pro's
- Lightweight for car based camping at 366g (12.9oz)
- Delivers true expresso
- Is simple to use and clean
- A small amount of hot water and you are good to go
Con's
- I need two shots out of it for a 'good' coffee'...the wife is happy with one
- Still a bit porky for a backpacking coffee system but depending on how far, how keen and how much time there is it may get carried into remote places.
