You should really pattern your shell/choke combinations at different yardages to find what works best in your gun. Some shells may be higher quality than others and some people have preferences for shot size based on time of year/shot distances. But you’ll never know if you don’t put it on paper.
I put a red dot on and cut the stock down for my 9 year old daughter on the 301. Shoots good patterns out to 40 with #9 tss. The 3” shells have a little bit of thump to them. I have a box of 2.5” 7s that I have her practice with and she’s fine with them.
A group of 3 of us are looking at possibly doing a lake based fly in moose hunt in northwest Ontario. I’m aware there are better places to hunt moose in Canada but this area is what fits our schedules/budgets. One thing I’m concerned with is the current population seems to be on a downward...
I used to shoot 150 nosler ballistic tips out of my 7mm Mag for deer and killed a bunch. But I quit using them a few years ago after some complete implosions on hard bone. Talking about picking jacket chunks 18-24” from entry. I wouldn’t use them on elk.
I know a large group that hunts there every year and last year was the worst year they’ve had in 15 years. I hunted with them 3 years ago and the 3 deer we had tested by fish and game all came back positive for cwd. I think numbers are just down all over that area.
I don’t have much around my home area but will be in Denver next week. Anyone have any suggestions for stores that carry a good selection of upper end hunting boots? Thanks
